  Films can broadly be grouped into types or genres; this is a list of the main cinema genres within which I have made recommendations.  Extra suggestions are welcome.

• Year/decade
  

  These are lists of recommended films ranging from the year just finished back to the Silent Era. chosen purely on the basis of being entertaining, not because they are Worthy or Important.  They are better than almost every film currently available at a multiplex.  Don't be put off if they are in black and white, have subtitles or star people you've never heard of; they are either funny, exciting, touching, thrilling or all of the above.  Be brave.

  Included here are a collection of different recommendations - to help you find just the film you'll enjoy at the right moment.  Films about schools, weddings, prisons etc, plus a selection of films that don't get enough attention, but you will enjoy if you try.  Suggestions for new sections welcome (eg films for a Saturday night when your brain is running on empty).
