VICKY CHRISTINA BARCELONA (2008). I am genuinely astonished by the chorus of acclaim which greeted this film on its release. To me it seemed a sure sign that Woody Allen has forgotten more than he ever learned about how to make films. The only thing this film has going on for it is the cast and the setting (see title). Otherwise it’s a cliched and unimaginative story about two American young women being seduced by Spain and a sexy Spaniard, all set to an excruciating voiceover that made my fillings hurt.
