THE VANISHING (1988). Makes Se7ev look like a romcom. A guy and his girlfriend are driving on a motorway and have a quarrel. She gets out at a service station and doesn’t come back. He cannot find her. Time passes, and he refuses to give up the search. Someone contacts him offering information. I’ve probably told you too much, but this Belgian film still remains the benchmark for inflicting mental suffering on the audience.
