VALKYRIE (2008). I’ve got nothing against Hollywood making a film about von Stauffenburg, and his plot to assassinate Hitler, and no objection to filling it full of well known British actors who can look good in uniform. I have a mild antipathy to casting Tom Cruise as an aristocratic German, and an even bigger grudge about turning the whole thing into a ‘we-love-TC’ festival, as the camera and the characters keep casting longing glances at him.
