UNFORGIVEN (1992). One of the greatest westerns of all time as well being a terrific film in its own right. As Clint Eastwood has got older, his film making skills have (mostly) improved. He plays a retired gunman who takes on one last job. It sounds like the biggest cliché in the world, but not this baby. Along with Morgan Freeman as his buddy, and Gene Hackman as the sheriff who’s trying to thwart them, Clint creates a landscape in which the use of violence is shown to be futile, resulting in further cycles of suffering. Gunfights have never been less glamorous.
