UNDER THE SAND (2000). Charlotte Rampling plays a woman whose husband has died (as far as we can tell), but is continuing to live her life as if he is still around – rather disconcerting for her friends. Her impenetrable elegance makes Rampling perfect for the role, and Francois Ozon’s direction leaves the audience in a state halfway between complicity and bewilderment.
