1900 (1976). Bertolucci’s epic film set in Italy in the first half of the 20th Century is undoubtedly ambitious, but not necessarily successful. In an attempt to appeal to a wider audience, we have de Niro, Depardieu, Burt Lancaster and Donald Sutherland alongside Italian actors. The story covers the clash between Italian landowners and the peasants, the rise of fascism and WW2, not to mention a love story or two. Running at over 4 hours, it’s a stretch.
