TESS (1979). Polanski’s take on Hardy’s brutal novel about a young woman who, through no fault of her own, is destroyed by everyone around her, including the man she loves, stars Nastssja Kinski (gorgeous). Hardy is not easy to adapt, and this is far from awful.
