SUNSET BOULEVARD (1950). On the whole you can assume that Billy Wilder films are a lot better than most other films, and this is one of his best. William Holden is the narrator, telling us his story from beyond the grave as he floats face down in a swimming pool. It’s a bitter saga of deception and cruelty, which remains as fresh and compelling as it was 60 years ago.
