SPARTACUS (1960). It’s much harder to make a good sword and sandals epic than you might think; that’s why there are so few of them. This is the Daddy. Kirk Douglas is the gladiator who takes on the might of the Roman Empire (led by an unctuous Laurence Olivier). It’s hard to believe that the same director made this and Eyes Wide Shut (and preferred the latter).
