SHADOW OF A DOUBT (1943). The trouble with Hitchcock films is that just when you think you’ve decided which is your favourite, you think of another one you like as much. So let’s just say this is one of my favourites, especially because it’s not as well known as others. Teresa Wright plays an impressionable teenager who is thrilled when her beloved uncle, Joseph Cotton, comes to stay. But hero worship is jeopardised by her suspicions. No one does tension and uncertainty better than Hitch.
