Steve Lopez is and was a columnist for the L A Times, who met a homeless black guy who turned put to be a cellist with mental illness. He befriends him, and starts writing columns about him. The plus points are the fact that the film tries to combine homelessness, mental illness, classical music and the decline of the newspaper business. And the presence of Catherine Keener and Robert Downey. The downside of the film is that (see above) it tries to pack too much in and ends up all over the place, sometimes hard-headed, but mostly sentimental.
