RED BEARD (1965). An unusual subject for Kurosawa; a young man comes to a medical clinic and unwillingly starts to work there under the guidance of the main doctor. In Hollywood’s hands, this would have been a mawkish sentimental story of redemption. But this is a sublime film about life and death and making meaning of both.
