REDS (1981). Warren Beatty’s labour of love tells the story of Jack Reed (played by Beatty), the left wing firebrand who left the US to join the Russian Revolution (1917), along with lover Diane Keaton. It’s long, but fascinating for history lovers like me, and though loaded in Reed’s favour, benefits from the testimony of people who were alive at the time. Gene Hackman and Jack Nicholson are impressive in the supporting cast.
