RATCATCHER (1999). Amazing first film from Lynne Ramsay who has only made one other since – not a great reflection on the way the British film industry treats its talent. A superficial eye might make comparisons with Ken Loach when reviewing this poignant story of a boy from a deprived background dealing with the difficulties of life; but Ramsay has a lyrical aspect to her film which is uniquely hers.
