RASHOMON (1950). This film is great both for what it is, and what it represents. 60 years ago, it opened the minds of Western Europe to the possibility that extraordinary and interesting films might come from elsewhere. Kurosawa also used the multiple unreliable narrators to remarkable effect as several different participants/observers recount the same event with varying information.
