RAGING BULL (1980). One of Scorsese’s indisputable masterpieces, this is anything but easy viewing. De Niro is extraordinary as Jake La Motta, top middleweight boxer in the 1940s, whose character flaws undermined his success in the ring. Joe Pesci plays his brother, trying in vain to introduce a little sense into his life, while Cathy Moriarty is exceptional as his teenage wife, object of his lust and jealousy. The camerawork, editing and music combine to create a great film.
