PINOCCHIO (1940). The best Disney films (and this is one of the very best) contain wisdom, heart and humour. They are scary and grownup in their attitudes to life. Even the songs are wonderful. The characters – Jiminy Cricket above all – are unforgettable, and above all, the animation is sublime, achieving a quality of texture that digital animation can never reproduce.
