PATHS OF GLORY (1957). Stanley Kubrick’s best film? Certainly a contender. And you could argue that its excellence is connected to the influence of Kirk Douglas as producer and star. Set in WW1 and based on real events, it tells the story of three soldiers picked at random for court martial as an example to the other troops. Douglas is the officer ordered to defend them (as a formality). A great war (anti-war) film.
