PASSAGE TO INDIA (1984). By the time he made this, David Lean was not the director he had been. It’s a decent enough stab at filing E M Forster’s novel, but it lacks the flair and dazzling imagination of his earlier films. Judy Davis is excellent as Adela Quested, but casting Alec Guinness as an Indian sage felt (and feels) like a mistake.
