PARIS, TEXAS (1984). The first half of this film is perfection. A man walks out of the desert (with Ry Cooder’s guitar music on the soundtrack), and we gradually discover what happened to him. Harry Dean Stanton, though a little old for the part, has a wonderful face, full of haunted melancholy, but with the capacity to light up. The film flags when he meets up with wife Nastassia Kinski, but watch it for the other part.
