OPEN RANGE (2003). I’m glad that the western has never died; every time an obituary is written, another one pops up. This one is no classic, but above average, and by comparison with Appaloosa (which it resembles) is really good. Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall are a couple of cowboys in conflict with land baron Michael Gambon who’s trying to fence them in. Annettte Bening does a fine job with the thankless role of the woman who waits.
