ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST (1975). Simply a great film. Milos Forman has made a masterpiece out of Ken Kesey’s novel set in a mental institution in the 1950s. Into this slumbering nuthatch comes Randle McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), who is far from nutty, just a troublemaker who the authorities can’t cope with. He is astonished by the placidity of the inmates (including Danny de Vito and Christopher Lloyd) in the face of the relentless oppression of Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), and decides to take steps to undermine her authority. I can’t recommend this highly enough.
