OLIVER TWIST (1948/2005). Both these versions of the novel have their merits. David Lean’s black and white film has a wonderful opening scene, plus Alec Guinness as Fagin. Polanski’s more modern version offers Ben Kingsley as Fagin, and follows the text more closely. You could watch either – or both.
