O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? (2000). I know many people can’t stand this film, but I love it (and its companion piece Down From The Mountain). For once George Clooney in gurning mode is funny, as a Clark Gable wannabe, endlessly worrying about his hair and making thoughtless decisions. It’s only because John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson (his fellow escaped convicts) are even thicker than him that he manages to get away with it. This 30s comedy is loosely based on The Odyssey, but it’s the music that makes this such a gem. Buy the soundtrack.
