NETWORK (1976). “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore” is not the snappiest catchphrase of all time, though it might express what a lot of people feel; but in this film, it is the mantra of TV news anchor Peter Finch who has flipped his lid and plans to shoot himself on air. The film (which won Oscars) is a satire on American television, and the joke is that what we see now on our screens is beyond the satire of 30 years ago.
