A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH (1946). Simply a great film. David Niven is an RAF pilot whose plane crashes into the sea as it returns from a bombing raid. But in the fog, his heavenly conductor misses him, and so he lives. This causes consternation in heaven, and he is summoned to return, but fights his case all the way to the top. Any plot summary does no justice to the superb brilliance of the film which is about as good as it gets.
