THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH (1976). Although this is hailed as a classic, to my mind it marks the decline of Nicolas Roeg after his stunning opening trio of films – Performance, Walkabout and Don’t Look Now. David Bowie is very good as the alien who arrives on Earth and finds it a strange place to live, but the film is more visually striking than narratively coherent, and it’s hard to care what happens.
