A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS (1965). Celebrated at the time of its release, this is still a very enjoyable film which posits the idealism and integrity of Thomas More (Paul Scofield) against the greed and pragmatism of Henry VIII (Robert Shaw), and his accomplice Thomas Cromwell (Leo McKern). The divorce of the Queen to be replace by Anne Boleyn is the issue over which they fall out. The film, based Robert Bolt’s play, makes great viewing, the only snag being that Thomas More was agood deal less saintly than as portrayed by Scofield.
