THE MALTESE FALCON (1941). Humphrey Bogart is Sam Spade in John Huston’s outstanding version of Dashiell Hammett’s novel. The plot is labyrinthine and unimportant, but the banter between Humph and Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet is memorable. One of the best.
