L.I.E. (2001). The acronym stands for Long Island Expressway, although I would be lying if I said there was no deceit in the film. Paul Dano plays a teenager whose mother has died, and his father’s attention is elsewhere. Meeting Big John Hannigan (Brian Cox) is both opportunity and risk, since John taste runs to boys. But it’s not as simple as good and bad, right and wrong. In fact, this is a well-made and subtle film.
