LAPUTA: CASTLE IN THE SKY (1986). Miyazaki’s film has a hero and heroine, both young, who join forces to help save a magical castle which floats in the sky (shades of Avatar), but which no one on Earth believes in. Like many of Studio Ghibli films, the setting is not historical, but a kind of fantasy amalgamation; there is also a strong ecological message and the quality of beautiful animation we have come to expect.
