LORD OF THE RINGS (2001/02/03). Technically speaking we should talk about The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, but Lord of the Rings covers the whole shebang, clocking in at just under 12 hours if you watch the extended versions, as I do. Can’t speak too highly of this achievement by Peter Jackson who created something which was both memorable, and hugely successful (a rare feat). The three films demand to be watched on a big screen, because they are epics in the true sense of the word, with a cast of thousands, marvellous set pieces, and an astonishingly successful combination of unlikely actors making the roles their own. Who could imagine that Viggo Mortensen was second choice for Aragorn?
