THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND (2006). Kevin Macdonald is proving himself one of the best British directors working today. Based on an oddly appealing novel about a young Scottish doctor who finds himself working for Idi Amin in Uganda (and somewhat magnetised by his crazed charisma), it stars Forest Whitaker in an Oscar-winning performance as the mad dictator, and James McAvoy as his increasingly terrified medical man.
