THE LADY VANISHES (1938). Hitchock is best known for the films he made in the States, but a lot of the stuff he made here before that is pretty damn good, especially this thriller set aboard a train travelling through Europe. Margaret Lockwood meets an old lady but when she disappears, everyone denies she ever existed. Funny, romantic and thrilling – what more can you ask?
