LA CONFIDENTIAL (1997). This is one of those films I could watch any number of times. James Ellroy (who wrote the book on which it is based) said that he had thought the book was unfilmable, and couldn’t believe how good a job they had done in capturing the essence of his story. Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce are both outstanding as young cops in post war L.A., and even Kim Basinger is far better than she has ever been. Can’t say enough good things about it.
