THE KITE RUNNER (2007). The problems with this film are the same ones they inherited from the book – a strong opening section which is completed unsatisfactorily. It starts in a pre-Taliban Afghanistan where two boys are in love with kite flying and have an apparently unbreakable friendship. What follows is at first painful, but then just plain melodramatic.
