KING LEAR. There’s always someone filming Shakespeare somewhere, and this tragedy has its share of cinematic versions despite its uncinematic qualities. The best of the bunch is a 1971 film with Paul Scofield as the barmy old monarch. There’s also versions with Olivier, McKellen and Ian Holm plus a Russian version. Much better to see the play on stage.
