THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (2005). Casting Orlando Bloom in the central role may have seemed like a good idea to Ridley Scott at the time, with his popularity high after Lord Of The Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean. But a film of this stature, which ambitiously tries to recreate the political and military complexities of the Crusades, requires someone with authority and presence, neither of which Bloom possesses. And surrounding him with the likes of Liam Neeson, Jeremy Irons and Edward Norton just reveals how limited he is. The scope of the film is impressive, but its execution is flawed.
