THE KILLING FIELDS (1984). Roland Joffe is the ultimate one hit wonder. More than 25 years since he made this film, he has done nothing else of any interest. Perhaps this was such a good story that he couldn’t blow it. Haing S Ngor stars as Dith Pran, a Cambodian who works for and with an American journalist. When the Khmer Rouge take over the country, Pran is left behind when Schanberg goes hone, and spends years in a KR camp. The further tragedy came when Ngor (who survived the same conditions as Pran) was murdered in a gang robbery some years later.
