IN BRUGES (2008). The first hour of this film is pure comic genius. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are a couple of Irish hitmen who’ve been sent to Bruges to keep them out of trouble after a job has gone wrong. Gleeson is full of enthusiasm for the medieval town; Farrell can’t stand the place. It’s an odd couple clash which works partly because of the underlying tragedy that gradually emerges, and the realisation that things are going to take a turn for the worse. Ralph Fiennes also turns up as a their boss, who is not Mr Nice.
