THE IDIOTS (1998). If you want a film director to annoy you, then Lars von Trier is your man. This is as provocative as they come, about a group of young people who live in a commune and pretend to be mentally handicapped (spassing, they call it), as a form of protest against bourgeois capitalism. But as with most of his films, the central character is a victimised woman.
