Will Smith is the Last Man Alive. An apparently successful attempt to wipe out cancer has resulted in most of the world's population dying or being turned into rabid humanoids. Will roams the streets of New York with his faithful Alsatian, hunting deer, trying to find a cure for the disease, and keeping out of the way of the Bad Creatures (complete with bad CGI) who come out at night.
It's a bit like Wall E, and in its own way not unenjoyable. WS is a pleasant enough actor, and the design of the deserted Manhattan is impressive and convincing. Unfortunately, the requirement of the film to move along involves the recurring attacks by the implausible beasties, sad losses, new characters and flashbacks to his family.
It's The End Of The World As We Know It movies are pretty common (The Road, Zombieland), and they all suffer from the same problem. The set up is much easier than the pay off. You can take us to the place, but how do you get us out of there? No one's cracked it yet.
