HAIRSPRAY (1988/2007). Originally a campy trashy movie from John Waters, this was transformed into a stage musical by some mysterious process, and then back into a film again. The story is the same in both; chubby girl wants to win dance contest in 1960s Baltimore, but is up against greed and prejudice. With the help of her mother (played by Divine/John Travolta) and her black friends, she wins the day and achieves racial integration. What was fun in the 80s became crass 20 years later.
