HAPPY TOGETHER (1997). At first you could be forgiven for thinking this isn't really a film, more of an exercise in editing & Expressionist whirl from Wong-Kar Wai in which Tony Leung & Leslie Cheung play a pair of alternately bickering & moping lovers on holiday in Buenos Aires. Then, just when you've filed it in Style Over Substance, you realise that Happy Together is actually a rending paean to emotional pain, a filmic poem about leaving & loving. Astonishingly beautiful & truly moving.
