HAPPINESS (1998). Two things you should know about this film – one is that it is a tour de force; the other is that it is one of the most challenging films I’ve ever seen. The title is not to be taken at face value. Three sisters have different problems and neuroses, only exceeded by the men to whom they are attracted (or vice versa). Some scenes will make you squirm with discomfort, but for a portrait of fucked-up sexuality, this is out there on its own. Director Todd Solondz has yet to achieve this level of brilliance again.
