A girlfriend experience is what you get if you have a lot of money and are willing to pay Chelsea (played by Sasha Grey) $2000 an hour to act as your girlfriend, with all that that entails. She will look glamorous, listen to you, let you take her out to expensive places, and fulfill all the roles of a fantasy girlfriend. It's business, it's a transaction - sex optional, but not the point of the whole process. Soderbergh cast Grey since she is not dissimilar to the part she plays in real life. The film is brief, reflective, dry and completely unpornographic.
