GARDEN STATE (2004). Enjoyable indie movie written and directed by and starring Zach Braff who comes home for his mother’s funeral, meets up with an old friend (Peter Sarsgaard), and a young woman (Natalie Portman), and tries to come terms with the state he’s in (New Jersey). There’s a feeling of updated Graduate about it, which is no bad thing, and Braff showed he had more to him than the schtick he does in Scrubs. Unfortunately he hasn’t done much since then.
