FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS (1998). Filming Hunter S. Thompson's Gonzo travelogue into the Dark Heart of 1970's America was always going to be a bad idea, or at least the kind of idea anyone but Terry Gilliam would steer clear of. Thankfully, Gilliam himself didn't, so we get this messy, sporadically hilarious drug-trip in all its twisted glory. There's not a lot of plot here, but it's reasonably faithful to the book, & Johnny Depp at least looks convincingly stoned.
