FANNY AND ALEXANDER (1982). Perhaps Bergman’s greatest film, and certainly his warmest and most human. Set in Sweden 100 years ago, it follows two children’s lives in a family, which struggles to stay together when tragedy strikes. It’s beautiful, believable, magical and almost perfect.
